Safari Experiences at Mongena Private Game Reserve

Guided Safari Drives
Looking for those authentic early-morning or sunset safari experiences? You’ll be in the safe hands of our qualified field guides in our vehicles. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars and camera! One drink per person from a standard cooler box and a snack will be served during the drinks stop.
Guided Bush Walks
Experience the wilderness as our ancestors did. Join us for exciting on-foot bush adventures for groups of 4 – 8 people. Dust off your hiking boots, we’ve got a walk for you! Concerned about safety? All guided bush walks offered by Mongena Private Game Reserve are led by experienced, qualified trail guides. This is one of our safari experiences not to be missed!
Boat Cruises
Watch the sky turn to a romantic purple-blue whilst listening to the African Fish Eagles cry at sunset, on our relaxing afternoon boat cruises on our exclusive 30-hectare dam. One drink per person from a standard cooler box and a snack will be served on board. Additional drinks are available on a cash basis. This activity replaces one of the guided game drive activities on the full board accommodation package and is subject to availability at point of booking.
Bird Watching
The wetlands around the dam offer superb bird watching. With over 300 bird species being recorded throughout the Reserve, you are guaranteed to find your lifer! Specialist birding drives are offered at regular intervals.
Bush Barbeques
Join us under shady, indigenous trees at the unfenced Acacia bush site, on the banks of the Pienaars River, for an unforgettable open-air breakfast or bush barbeque lunch.
Bush Barbeque luncheons are arranged per appointment, pre-paid and need a minimum of 48 hours’ notice and are executed with a minimum of 20 guests and exclude drinks which can be pre-ordered as well and settled upon departure.
Don’t worry, we’ll deal with any uninvited guests that may come to investigate the delicious culinary undertakings! Alternatively, Imvubu Lapa with its boma and thatched roof is the all-weather choice for barbeque dinners, birthday parties and special events.
Bush breakfasts are also available on request, with a smorgasbord of delicious breakfasting options to sink your teeth into with a minimum number of 30 guests.
Bass Fishing
Take your team of rod-wielding fishing enthusiasts on an adventure outing of bass fishing fun! Explore the Mongena Dam as you catch and release some of our bass fish that are sure to challenge even the most seasoned line casters. For resident guests only.
Conservation Experiences
Discover as a group, one of the rarest safari experiences you’ll ever get access to: rhino darting and/or monitoring of threatened or protected species (TOPS). Stay at Mongena Private Game Reserve during certain times of the year and join us as we take part in important African rhino and other threatened species conservation projects in conjunction with the Dinokeng Game Reserve Management.
Romantic Getaways
Spoil your special person at Mongena Private Game Reserve with a candle-lit dinner followed by a romantic turndown in your chalet or tent for that unforgettable anniversary, birthday or special event or surprise your partner with an engagement in the bush!
